A hallway that had lost a number of original features when converted to flats, including a curved bannister and bottom step. Luckily I was able to take measurements and photos of neighbouring hallways that were still intact.
First job was to reinstate curved dado rails…
Next I made the carved bannister and step curl in the workshop
Next I replaced the stair nosings….
Then the bottom stair tread curl was morticed in
A cast iron Victorian newel post I sourced on eBay was threaded with bar and bolted through the stair tread and under the floor.
Now the bannister and spindles were installed
A new meter cupboard was fitted
After this, the plaster wall corner was cut back and re curved, and a radiator cover to match the meter cupboard fitted
Before and after….
